Welcome to the Webpages of the
TransCOST
AllBio Bioinformatics Group
Bioinformatics has become a key part of modern biology. Handling and understanding vast bodies of biological data is only possible with the help of sophisticated mathematical analysis. A broad spectrum of bioinformatics tools has been developed across all areas of the life sciences.
AllBio is a Coordination Action funded under FP7 www.allbioinformatics.eu that coordinates the efforts for the generalisation and the broadening of the applicability of the many human-centric bioinformatics facilities to other areas of the life sciences. Via "Test Cases" we collect information about the existing needs and try to find solutions together with researchers from the bioinformatics community.
One central aim of the AllBio consortium is to transfer the knowledge of existing bioinformatics tools and webservices among the various life science areas and to identify still unsolved bioinformatics challenges.
We know that there are many different-yet-similar activities in the field of bioinformatics, both in Europe as well as worldwide. We feel that by fostering all these initiatives and, where possible, bringing them together, everyone will benefit. Therefore we cordially invite you to an exploratory meeting to delineate existing bioinformatics challenges and needs.
Our first community building meeting was the 29-30 November 2012 in Amsterdam, where an overview of the AllBio project was presented and several projects informed us on their specific angles in the life sciences. The aim of the meeting was:
- to identify bioinformatics needs and challenges,
- to build bridges between life science communities through common-ground bioinformatics
- to discuss strategies on how to enable exchange of bioinformatics tools among various life science fields
- to identify common and specific bioinformatics needs across the life science
Prior to the AllBio meeting several COST Actions across all areas of the life sciences had a TRANS-COST meeting initiated by “SeqAhead – Next Generation Sequencing Bioinformatics” www.seqahead.eu to discuss synergies.
